The start of the Climate Campus will represent the first step towards a new centre of knowledge and innovation for the transition of Rotterdam and the surrounding areas to a futuristic region. Eventually, the Climate Campus will expand into a large scale complex of knowledge centres, test sites, conference facilities, catering and temporary accommodation for experts and students. The Climate Campus will be launched in an existing prominent building, where it will remain until 2015. Over time, a new icon will develop, for example on the Nieuwe Maas River, to form the basis for the Campus. The E-on power station in the heart of the area will undergo extensive redevelopment to supply heat to surrounding buildings.
